Okay, so maybe I belive in Manifestation and the Law of Attraction…

posted 23rd February 2011    Written by: Molly Mahar    CATEGORY: Inspiration, Molly, Spirituality, Travel/Adventure

I’ve never been a big believer in manifestation and the Law of Attraction…  The Secret?  Read it.  Watched the movie.  Still couldn’t get on board.   I mean, in general, I believe in things like affirmations, and the power of optimism, and a little bit of neuro-linguistic programming…

But manifesting a material desire? Putting a picuture of the man/job/home/car/body of my dreams on a vision board and having it simply appear my life?  It’s a bit high on the woo woo scale for me.

I mean, it was.  Until Sunday.

The Big Man and I were driving on Highway One between San Luis Obispo and Santa Cruz.  It was gorgeous and sunny and I was completely present.  And happy!  I did not, however, realize there is literally nothing on that road besides breathtaking views.

By 3 pm, I was starving.

And we all know I get really cranky when I’m hungry…

We had seen signs for Big Sur.  I was imaging a little town with cafes and incense stores and plenty of lunch options.  After we passed a few hippie-esque resorts tucked in the woods- I was like, “I think this is it!  This is Big Sur! Oh no! Did we miss it all?  [wince, grimace] I neeeeeeeed fooooood!”

Luckily, the Big Man spotted some umbrellas up ahead.  Umbrellas that were protecting diners from the sun on a gorgeous cliff-side deck.  Sold!   After missing it on the first attempt to pull in the driveway, having to pull a u-turn on the highway, and then waiting for parking, we finally started climbing the stairs to lunch.

He started toward the first deck with the umbrellas.  I kept gazing up the winding stairs.

Really, I thought to myself.  Really?

“Ken.  We need to eat at the restaurant up there,” I said pointing, “I need to eat there. I swear that’s the restaurant on my vision board.

As I came up to the entrance and the view over the Pacific Ocean, I was sure of it.  This place was located snuggly in the top right-hand corner of my vision board.  I had no idea what the name was, nor where it was located.  But we were there…

Nepenthe. In Big Sur, California.

It appeared I had manifested a vision from my board.  A vision of beauty, of good company, of sunshine and the clinking cheers of wineglasses. Without any effort or action, we had shown up at a place I had clipped out of a magazine months ago. I was stunned and a little freaked out.

It’s one thing to hear about other people experiencing the Law of Attraction.  It’s another to experience it yourself!

After a 20 minute wait to be seated, we had a lovely lunch of beets and turkey sandwiches and cold glasses of white wine.  The view was amazing.  The company, fabulous.  I couldn’t stop grinning.  This was the place…

We trekked back down to the car after I bought a talisman necklace and wind-chime in the gift shop to remind me of my new found power!  I showed the Big Man my vision board (which I had shrunk down at Kinkos and used as the cover to my 2011 Goddess Planner).   He couldn’t believe I had figured out we were at the right place, but when we looked closely, we both realized we had been seated literally “in the picture”.

There are fourish seats in the photo on my vision board. We had just ate lunch in two of them.

So, regardless of my reservations, I gotta admit.  There is something to this whole manifestation gig.

I’m learning to have some faith in things that I don’t understand…  And believe me, I totally studied the rest of that vision board!  What’s next, Universe?

I’m ready.

Kinda crazy and awesome all rolled into one. :) You happened to be in the right place and time. Hungry and seeking out food at the right time. I've heard of Nepenthe and the gorgeous views at the restaurant, but haven't eaten there. If I want it enough, it'll happen, right?

Whoa… what an incredible story, Molly! I have a friend who really pushed the "Law of Attraction" on me and tried to convince me that it works. I was skeptical, but I read "The Secret" anyway. I wanted to believe it, but I still doubted, so I practiced it in small measure. It worked. It really did.

I wouldn't say I'm exerting my energy focusing on stacks of $100's, but I'm more careful about what I spend my thoughts on. It might actually become my reality!

LOVE this! Not to mention, that strip of road on California's coast is one of my absolute favorite places in the world. So, so beautiful. Reading this gave me goosebumps. (And I'm not so much for the whole Secret thing either.) Awesome, Molly. I'm inspired to do a new vision board for the year!

This is so bat shit crazy. BUT, I believe every inch of it and am not all that surprised, really. I'm a bit of a Secret believer, plus I figure if this could happen to anybody, I'm not surprised it's you! xo

I really love this. Whenever I hear a story of Law of Attraction success, I get all energized and promise myself to make vision boards and try it out myself. Maybe this is a nudge by the universe to get started.

Thank you for sharing… I have been talking to my dear friend Amy and we have been planning to together build new vision boards in the coming week or so. it's crazy how the next post I read is yours' about visions boards and their power. I'm ready to put my intentions into the Universe and start the manifestation of my Happiness.

This is so really powerful stuff…

My Take: This was an amazing experience. When we pulled up to the place, and walked to one of the lower decks Molly got this look in her eyes, like Richard Dreyfus in Close Encounters of the Third Kind. Full of wonder and a half cocked smile she says – "We have to eat upstairs. I think I'm supposed to go to this place." It wasn't a request, but more like a Commandment from on high.

This restaurant above had several different seating areas, and probably 200 different seats and was crowded. We were told that our wait would be about 20 minutes and when we lucked out with two seats at the bar we were tempted to just eat there. But Molly says – lets see where they seat us – it may be some amazingly great spot and although we're starving, let's tough it out and see. Then they walked us out to the best seats in the entire place, the exact ones that were in Molly's picture. We only figured this out AFTER we got back to the car and looked at Molly's vision board. And this deck we sat on – was way in the back of the restaurant. We hadn't even seen this part up to this point. How she realized that this was the place from a tiny little picture on her vision board that doesn't even show the ocean is beyond me.

    The Big Man.

I do believe our thoughts are important and that focusing our thoughts on what we want/need rather than why things won't work is important. I also think The Secret is a load of bullshit that seeks to blame individual people in lieu of larger forces for problems that are often larger than just people and their thoughts/intentions. (What I come back to: How do you apply the Law of Attraction to places like Sudan?)

That said, I do a vision board every year and have for the last three or four years. They are always important to me and help me clarify what I want and need. For me, they aren't nearly as much about literal interpretations as they are the emotional states (rest, joy, attachment) that I want to create space for in my life. (I also have to be careful when I make them that I'm not buying into the seductive advertising about what I want from the magazines I'm using, rather than what really matters to me.)

Great story!! I have had similar experiences… A friend took me to see waterfalls near Portland – I got home to Seattle and realized I had a waterfall on my vision board. I saw whales – I got home to realize there were whales on my vision board. My husband put an owl on our couple's vision board, and my mother gave us a carved wooden owl that my father had carved when I was little. It happens time and time again, you can't help but start to believe!!!

I found the same to be true when I started to pay attention to my finances . I focused on a goal that I didn’t necessarily believe it would be possible. Things started falling into place by what can only be called tiny miracles. I am still in shock. I am now focusing on my career and your blog has really been helpful in propelling me out of one field into another. Keep the inspiration coming!
